North Dakota Newspaper Association Education Foundation Surpasses $1 Million in Support of Journalism & Literacy

The North Dakota Newspaper Association Education Foundation (NDNAEF) has invested over $1 million since 2009 in initiatives designed to bolster journalism and reading skills throughout the state, the foundation announced today.

Established in 2009, the NDNAEF has focused its efforts on three key areas: providing newspaper internships for students, strengthening reading comprehension in elementary schools, and supporting high-quality content creation through the ND News Cooperative. This investment aims to cultivate a pipeline of skilled journalists and an informed citizenry. A strong local press is vital for government transparency and community engagement.

Funds have been allocated to place students in hands-on internship roles at newspapers across North Dakota, offering practical experience in the field. The foundation also supports programs aimed at improving literacy rates among young students, recognizing the critical link between reading proficiency and civic participation. Further information about the importance of local journalism can be found at the News Media Alliance.

The NDNAEF is currently seeking donations to continue and expand these programs. Individuals interested in contributing can donate online at ndna.com/donate or by mail to NDNAEF, 501 E Main Ave, Suite 75, Bismarck ND 58501. Officials stated that continued support will be crucial to ensuring accountability in both local and state government.
