Crimson Desert Developers Address Console Performance Concerns

The developers of the highly anticipated open-world action adventure game, Crimson Desert, are pushing back against claims they are concealing console performance data, following concerns the game might mirror the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The game, developed by Pearl Abyss, is slated for release on PC and current-generation consoles, a decision made to avoid the pitfalls experienced by CD Projekt with its previous title.

Will Powers, the public face of Crimson Desert in the West, responded to accusations on social media, stating, “We’re not hiding anything, and I’m sick of having to repeat myself. I’ve repeated 100s of times that we’ll reveal things ahead of launch to give people adequate time to still preorder the game for themselves. We’re saying this openly… Let us cook? Please and thank you.”

Powers further clarified his position on Reddit, emphasizing the importance of transparency while also pushing back against demands for information on a timeline dictated by others. “People have the right to information to make an informed purchase. Simply place, that’s transparency, and that’s what we’re promising. But people demanding information on their timeline is entitlement, and that needs to conclude.”

The reassurances come as players await concrete performance figures for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S versions of the game. The rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077, particularly on last-generation consoles, has left many gamers wary of pre-ordering titles without a clear understanding of how they will perform on their systems. This caution underscores the increasing importance of transparency in game development and the potential consequences of unmet expectations.

Recent previews of Crimson Desert, including a six-hour hands-on preview highlighted by Jeuxvideo.com, have showcased the game’s expansive open world and ambitious scope. The game’s size has also been revealed, prompting players to begin clearing storage space for the release. Jeuxvideo.com reports on the game’s substantial file size.

Early reviews suggest Crimson Desert has the potential to become a major player in the open-world action genre. Xboxygen shares initial impressions, positioning the game as a potential “mastodonte” (mastodon) of the genre. The game’s development team is keen to avoid a repeat of the issues surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, as reported by Gameblog and WorldOfGeek.
