The area around the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, experienced heightened alert levels on February 28, with evacuations taking place as regional tensions escalated. This followed drone strikes on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, with smoke visible from the Fairmont The Palm hotel. The incident occurred as Iran launched retaliatory strikes against the UAE and neighboring states.
Dubai International Airport suspended all flights, and the Burj Khalifa was evacuated as regional tensions reached a critical peak. The strikes are part of a larger retaliatory wave launched by Tehran following a joint US-Israeli offensive, “Operation Epic Fury,” targeting Iranian military assets. Reports indicate that several industrial workers and tourists are currently stranded in Dubai amid the ongoing conflict.
The Dubai Media Office confirmed an “incident” in the Palm Jumeirah area, stating that four individuals sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment. While the UAE Ministry of Defence announced that its air defense systems intercepted the majority of incoming ballistic missiles, shrapnel fell in several residential and tourist hubs. The Burj Khalifa, standing at 829.8 meters (2,722 feet), remains a prominent landmark in the city.
