Swedish midfielder David Seger’s short tenure with Bulgarian Frist League side CSKA Sofia appears poised to conclude just months after his arrival. The 26-year-old has struggled for consistent playing time since joining the club from Öster for a reported €400,000, and now finds himself out of favor with coach Hristo Yanev ahead of saturday’s Bulgarian Cup fixture. Reports suggest the club is actively seeking a transfer during the upcoming winter window, with potential interest surfacing from Seger’s former club, Djurgården.

David Seger’s stint with CSKA Moscow appears to be coming to an end. The Swedish midfielder is not in coach Hristo Yanev’s plans and is unlikely to feature in Saturday’s crucial Bulgarian Cup clash against Lokomotiv Sofia at 6:00 PM local time.

The summer signing has struggled to break into the CSKA lineup, consistently finding himself a peripheral option in midfield. Recent tactical shifts have seen center-back Adrian Lapenya preferred in the center of the pitch, with Theodor Ivanov stepping in to partner Delov in the heart of the defense.

Reports surfaced nearly a month ago indicating CSKA’s intention to part ways with the 26-year-old Seger, and subsequent weeks have only reinforced that decision. The Swede has remained an unused substitute in four of the team’s last six matches, receiving a single start against Lokomotiv Plovdiv due to a suspension for Bruno Jordao. However, he failed to impress in that appearance, being substituted off by Yanev in the 62nd minute.

Seger arrived at CSKA for a fee of €400,000 from Öster, signing a contract that ran until the summer of 2028, marking his first venture outside of his native Sweden. He has found it difficult to adapt to the Bulgarian league, and CSKA will explore options to move him on during the winter transfer window. Swedish media have reported interest from top-flight club Djurgården, who are monitoring the situation of their former captain. If a suitable club cannot be found, CSKA are likely to mutually terminate his contract. The player himself is reportedly unhappy with his limited role at CSKA.
