De Ketelaere & Theate: Injury Updates for Belgium Stars

Brussels – A growing injury list is causing concern for Belgium national team coach Rudi Garcia as the March international window approaches. Key players Charles De Ketelaere and Arthur Theate both suffered injuries this week, casting doubt on their availability for upcoming friendlies against the United States and Mexico.

De Ketelaere, who plays for Atalanta, underwent a “successful operation” on Thursday, February 12, 2026, after sustaining a meniscus tear during training on Monday, according to sporza.be. The club described the procedure as a minor one to remove the damaged portion of his meniscus, and he has already begun rehabilitation. The timeline for his return remains uncertain.

Adding to Garcia’s woes, Eintracht Frankfurt defender Arthur Theate picked up a knee injury during a training session. HLN reports that Notice fears the injury could sideline Theate for an extended period.

The injuries arrive at a critical time for the Red Devils, who face the United States on March 28 and Mexico on March 31. Garcia is hoping to assess the fitness of several players during a mini-training camp in the US. Walfoot.be notes that Garcia expressed his concern over the mounting injury problems, stating, “The idea is to be ready for the World Cup, but it’s true that it’s happening right in the middle of preparation.”

“My next selection will not look at all like the one I will take to the World Cup in June,” Garcia added. “I hope this black series will stop and everyone will be fit in time.”

The coach confirmed both De Ketelaere and Theate underwent surgery on Thursday morning. Their availability for the World Cup remains in question, as their presence is considered vital for Belgium to perform at its best.

This latest setback follows injuries to Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans, Jérémy Doku, Thomas Meunier, and Dodi Lukebakio, further complicating Garcia’s team selection process.
