Three men have been charged with murder in what authorities are calling a targeted ambush of DELAROSA, a rising Latina singer who released her debut single earlier this year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, 22-year-old Maria De La Rosa – professionally known as DELAROSA – was in a vehicle with two other individuals in Northridge, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, in the early hours of November 22nd.
Prosecutors allege that three individuals approached the vehicle, “demanded money, and then opened fire, striking all three occupants,” the District Attorney’s Office stated in a news release.
De La Rosa died from her injuries, and “the other two victims sustained serious wounds,” the office added. The case underscores the growing concerns surrounding violence against emerging artists.
As a result, prosecutors have charged all three suspects, all residents of Northridge, with one count of murder and two counts of attempted second-degree robbery.
“If convicted of the charges, all three defendants face a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole,” according to the District Attorney’s Office.
DELAROSA was a young Latina artist gaining recognition on social media as a lifestyle, travel, and fashion content creator, amassing over 45,000 followers on Instagram.
She launched her music career in August with the release of her debut single, “No me llames,” a corrido tumbado-influenced track exploring themes of heartbreak.
Her last Instagram post, shared on October 30th, featured photos of her in a music studio surrounded by instruments like an electric guitar and a keyboard. She captioned the post: “Busy cooking in the stu (…) It’s time.”
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman described the crime as a “cold and calculated attack.”
“This was a cold and calculated attack that took the life of a young, promising artist and caused lasting trauma to her family and the two survivors. My office will pursue this case with vigor to ensure those responsible are held accountable for this senseless and deadly violence,” Hochman stated.
One of the accused was arrested on November 22nd, the day of the shooting, and is scheduled to appear in court on January 7, 2026, with bail set at $2,180,000. Another suspect, arrested on November 23rd, was expected to be arraigned Wednesday with bail set at $2,280,000. A third suspect has a bail of $2,205,000, and an arrest warrant has been issued, with a court date to be determined.
