Standard Liege forward and former Union Saint-Gilloise player Dennis Eckert Ayensa is poised to make his debut on the international stage, but not for Germany, the nation he previously represented at the U19 level – instead, he will play for Iran, a team in the same World Cup group as Belgium.
The 29-year-old native of Bonn has received his first call-up to the Iranian national football team. “Eckert has been invited to the training camp and, after obtaining the necessary permissions from FIFA, he will have the opportunity to play under the colors of the Iranian national team,” stated a release from the Iranian Football Federation (FFI).
