Juárez Midfielder Denzell García Emerges as Plan B for Mexico National Team

Denzell García has become a key backup option for Javier Aguirre and the Mexican National Team. The midfielder, currently playing for Bravos de Juárez, has caught the attention of ‘Vasco’ this year. With Gil Mora and now Marcel Ruiz unavailable, Aguirre is evaluating how García stacks up against Álvaro Fidalgo, who is currently favored for the midfield position.

García is a consistent starter for Juárez and one of the few players from the border club to earn a call-up to the national team in recent years. He completed his cycle with youth national teams, notably the Under-23 squad when he was just 20 years old.

At that level, he participated in international friendlies and the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2024, formerly known as the Esperanzas de Toulon.

Jaime Lozano gave him his first opportunity with the senior national team in a friendly against Bolivia in June 2024, and he continued to feature in younger age groups. He steadily gained recognition due to his strong performances.

This year, Aguirre called him up for friendly matches against Panama and Bolivia in January. He saw action against Bolivia and made a positive impression, though he faced tough competition from Marcel Ruiz, Fidalgo, and the absent Luis Chávez and Gil Mora, who were already injured.

With Mora, Chávez, and Ruiz sidelined, Denzell emerges as the natural replacement to complement what Álvaro Fidalgo brings to the table, having impressed in his first call-up to the National Team for friendlies against Portugal and Belgium.

García’s versatility – capable of playing as a central midfielder, interior midfielder, double pivot, or even deeper in defense – makes him a valuable asset for Aguirre, who values players able to fill multiple roles.

While competing with Fidalgo won’t be uncomplicated, García’s opportunities are increasing thanks to his impressive passing accuracy – over 85 percent on through balls – his ability to uncover teammates between the lines, and his intelligent positioning on the field.

With the Mexican National Team dealing with numerous injuries and Fidalgo’s initial call-up, Denzell García stands out as one of the newest options for ‘Vasco’ Aguirre as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
