Daily Battle: Luxembourg Association Supports Dialysis Patients and Promotes Organ Donation
A Luxembourg-based organization, Dialyse Patienten Lëtzebuerg, is dedicated to supporting individuals undergoing dialysis, their families, and friends. Founded in 2004, the association provides a network of peer support and advocates for increased organ donation awareness. This type of support is crucial, as chronic kidney disease affects millions worldwide and often requires life-sustaining dialysis treatment.
Originally established in 2004 as “Amicale des malades rénaux de l’Hôpital Kirchberg a.s.b.l.” by dialysis patients, kidney transplant recipients, healthcare professionals, and physicians, the organization rebranded as Dialyse Patienten Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l. In December 2017. The association is run by volunteers who share their own experiences to help others navigate the challenges of kidney disease.
The organization’s core mission is to offer guidance and support to dialysis patients, their loved ones, and to promote campaigns for organ donation. They achieve this through a variety of activities, including regular meetings, cooking classes, and summer excursions.
Currently, the association’s leadership includes Sandra Chrisnach as President, Liliane Kolbach and Jean Pierre Larosch as Vice Presidents, Juliette Achen as Secretary, Fernand Pütz as Deputy Secretary, and Carlo Chrisnach as Treasurer.
Dialyse Patienten Lëtzebuerg can be reached at P.B. 151 L-7502 Mersch, by phone at 00352 621 70 33 03, or via email at [email protected]. More information is available on their website and Facebook page. The organization’s work highlights the importance of community support in managing chronic illnesses and the ongoing necessitate for increased organ donation rates.
The association too maintains a presence at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), though in-person visits are currently limited due to COVID-19 precautions.
