The crash occurred on the Toluca–Valle de Bravo highway near the town of Amanalco, in the State of Mexico, when the Suburban collided with a white Isuzu cargo truck, authorities said. Three young people died in the accident, including Osuna Miranda, and two others were seriously injured.

Emergency services responded to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for specialized medical attention, according to official reports.

Two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old were hospitalized in stable condition and under medical observation.

Rafael Espeleta Cuéllar and Edwin Gabriel Rangel Luna too died in the crash. The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of grief and support for the Osuna family.

Mexico City’s Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “I deeply regret the tragic death of Diego Osuna yesterday. My heartfelt condolences to Eduardo, family and friends. Rest in peace.”

Francisco Cervantes Díaz, former president of the Coordinating Business Council (CCE), wrote, “I deeply regret the sensitive death of Diego Osuna Miranda, son of Eduardo Osuna, CEO of BBVA Mexico, and Mrs. Norma Miranda. I express my most sincere condolences for this irreparable loss. Rest in peace.”

Diego Osuna Miranda was the son of Eduardo Osuna Osuna and Norma Miranda. His father has been the vice president and director general of BBVA México since 2015. The Osuna Miranda family is well-known in Mexico’s business and financial circles.

The death of BBVA México’s director general’s son underscores the vulnerability to traffic accidents, even with enhanced vehicle safety features.

Authorities in the State of Mexico continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident. The families of the victims have requested privacy as legal and funeral arrangements are made.
