A Canadian expat is making a heartfelt journey back to her roots in Normandy, France, to honor the legacy of reggae singer Naâman. Laure Renaux, who has lived in Canada for the past decade, returned to Dieppe to create a unique tribute to the internationally known artist.
Renaux was deeply saddened when she couldn’t travel to France following Naâman’s death last year. “It made me triste de ne pas être présente,” she explained. “I felt a real sense of loss.”
“A Personal Journey”
A longtime fan of Martin Mussard, Naâman’s given name, Renaux decided to cross the Atlantic and embark on a road trip, “a personal journey for me to reflect,” she said. The move comes as reggae continues to gain global recognition, influencing artists across genres.
To document her tribute, she created the Facebook page Naâman Legacy, where she’ll be posting her experiences throughout her stay in Normandy. Posts include singing Naâman’s songs on the beach, a video cover of International love, and photos of enjoying Jamaican coffee – all nods to the artist’s life and work.
“The idea is also to show a different side of the Dieppe region, through places that Martin frequented and loved,” she added.
The page functions as a blog, inviting fellow Naâman fans to share their own memories and tributes to the artist.
“Mamâ one love,” her artist name
Upon arriving at the airport on December 17, 2025, Renaux was greeted by Francky Djibril Guillard of Party Time Radio, a well-known figure in the French reggae scene. “He accompanied Naâman at the beginning of his career. He’s also advising me as I pursue my own music,” she said.
Renaux herself is now forging a path in music, performing under the name Mamâ one love.
