Goms, Switzerland – Jessie Diggins secured her 88th career World Cup podium finish on Sunday, finishing second in the women’s 20km mass start classic event in Goms, Switzerland. The result comes in the final World Cup competition before the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, signaling strong form for the American star as she prepares for the Games.

Diggins finished just 0.9 seconds behind Finland’s Johanna Matintalo, who claimed her first World Cup victory in a time of 55 minutes and 53.9 seconds. “Finally. It’s been pretty close to be on the podium many times this season, but no podium before this weekend and now first win, so I’m very happy. It’s great before Olympics to, I don’t know, be in the best shape of the season and this is good, final race before the Olympics,” Matintalo said after the race.

Astrid Oeyre Slind of Norway rounded out the podium, finishing 0.8 seconds behind Diggins. This performance marks Diggins’s 90th career FIS Cross Country World Cup podium in a record-setting 379 starts.

On the men’s side, it was a dominant performance from Norway, with Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo taking the top spot in the 20km classic with a time of 48 minutes and 29 seconds, earning his 107th World Cup win. “It feels really good, I feel my body is in good shape. Just going try to maintain this shape now for the next two weeks,” Klaebo stated following his victory.

Norwegian teammates Emil Iversen and Harald Oestberg Amundsen completed the sweep of the men’s podium, finishing second and third respectively. Iversen was 5.6 seconds behind Klaebo, while Amundsen trailed Iversen by 1.4 seconds.

Also competing for the U.S., Brennan finished in the top 12, and Schumacher placed 15th.

The competition served as a crucial tune-up for athletes heading into the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, providing valuable race experience and a final opportunity to assess form before the Games start.
