The city of Diourbel, Senegal, is undergoing a major cleanup effort ahead of the Korité celebration, a significant cultural and religious event.
Fifty sanitation workers have been deployed throughout the municipality to bolster regular waste collection and street cleaning, according to Cheikh Moustapha Gaye, the local head of the National Integrated Waste Management Company (SONAGED).
To facilitate the removal of household waste, particularly in areas generating large volumes, the initiative includes three collection vehicles.
Gaye similarly stated that six large polybenne containers have been strategically placed throughout the city, each monitored by a dedicated attendant to ensure proper use.

Fifteen workers are focused specifically on waste collection, while the remaining personnel will concentrate on intensive cleaning operations at the Ndoumbé Diop market, Gaye explained.
The effort aims to provide a clean and healthy environment for residents during the anticipated high traffic associated with the Korité festivities, he added.
