Dozens of Truck Drivers Fined on Romanian Highway

Romanian highway patrol and transport inspectors have been cracking down on trucks exceeding weight restrictions on the DN7 highway, resulting in 54 fines totaling approximately 30,000 lei (roughly $6,500 USD). The enforcement action, which began earlier this week, aims to secure hillside areas along the route.

According to reports from Vâlcea County police, the operation focused on vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and was designed to reduce road risks and address driver violations. The increased scrutiny comes as crews work to stabilize slopes and mitigate rockfall hazards. This situation highlights the ongoing infrastructure challenges faced by the transportation industry in certain regions.

Fines Range from $215 to $430

Police are reminding drivers that violating the traffic restrictions, which are in effect daily between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM, carries significant penalties. Those caught driving in restricted areas face fines ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 lei (approximately $215 to $430 USD).

“We recommend that drivers, especially those involved in freight transport, respect the traffic restrictions, the time intervals in which they apply, and use the established alternative routes,” stated a representative from Vâlcea County police, adding that traffic enforcement will continue.

Restrictions on the section of DN7 between Râmnicu Vâlcea and Boița, impacting vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, will remain in place until June 15th. The ban applies Monday through Saturday, with exceptions for passenger transport, legal holidays, and officially declared days off.

Vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tonnes are also subject to restrictions on sections of the road currently undergoing construction. Between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM, traffic for these vehicles may be temporarily prohibited or reduced to a single lane, directed by traffic pilots.
