Klei Entertainment has officially expanded its gothy, sketchbook-style survival franchise with the announcement of Don’t Starve Elsewhere. Unveiled during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase on April 9, 2026, the new title marks the first major new entry in the series in several years, promising a refreshed experience that blends solo challenges with co-op gameplay.

The upcoming title evolves the core survival-crafting loop that defined the original solo game and the 2016 co-op hit, Don’t Starve Together. Players will once again face an unforgiving environment, balancing the need to forage, scavenge, and build during the daylight hours against the necessity of fighting off ravenous creatures when night falls. This iteration introduces a new world characterized by fresh magic, monsters, and mysteries, emphasizing a sense of discovery through its “darkly whimsical” atmosphere.

Early glimpses of the game, including a world premiere trailer, highlight significant additions to the series’ environmental design. Observers have noted an increase in verticality and the introduction of new creatures, such as goat people, demonic plants, “mangy hedgehog-looking” entities, and potentially owlbears. Returning fan-favorite characters Wilson, Willow, Wendy, and WX-78 are similarly confirmed to appear in the new world.

This launch signals Klei’s commitment to iterating on its established IP to keep the survival genre innovative. While the series has seen various DLCs over the years—most recently the Hamlet expansion in 2018—Don’t Starve Elsewhere represents a broader step forward for the franchise.

For those looking to catch up before the new release, Klei previously launched the Don’t Starve Mega Pack in December 2025, which bundles the content of both the original game and Don’t Starve Together into a single package. As of April 9, 2026, Klei has not yet provided a specific release date or launch window for Don’t Starve Elsewhere.
