A Hamburg-based cardiologist and pharmacologist, Dr. Thomas Meinertz, has dedicated his career to understanding and treating a range of heart conditions. His expertise includes arrhythmias, coronary heart disease, and heart valve disorders. This operate is particularly important as heart disease remains a leading cause of death worldwide.
Dr. Meinertz previously served as the chairman of the German Heart Foundation and held a long-term leadership position as the director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Cardiology and Angiology at the University Heart Center Hamburg. He has authored hundreds of scientific articles published in national and international medical journals.
Currently, Dr. Meinertz is the editor-in-chief of the German Heart Foundation’s magazine, “HERZ heute,” and contributes articles to the foundation’s online platforms. He is similarly an emeritus director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Cardiology and Angiology at the University Heart Center Hamburg, a position he held since 2011.
Throughout his career, Dr. Meinertz has also been involved in the editorial process of numerous medical textbooks and journals, including serving on the editorial board of “Circulation.” He received the Carl Ludwig Honorary Medal from the German Society for Cardiology in 2011 and the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2016, recognizing his significant contributions to the field.
