Police on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, apprehended a driver near Krucemburk after a lengthy pursuit involving dangerous maneuvers and a failed attempt to ram a police vehicle.

The incident began when the driver disregarded police commands and accelerated directly toward officers, forcing one to jump out of the way to avoid being struck, according to police spokesperson Michaela Lébrová. A minor collision occurred during the attempt.

The suspect then fled toward Stržanov on Highway I/37, ignoring both flashing lights and audible sirens. The chase continued for approximately 15 kilometers before officers successfully deployed a tire-deflation device near Krucemburk.

“During the pursuit, the man drove recklessly, repeatedly crossing into oncoming traffic and reaching speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour,” Lébrová stated. Officers coordinated with a patrol unit from Chotěboř to strategically deploy the stopping device.

Even after the vehicle was disabled, the driver refused to exit the car, prompting officers to use force to accept him into custody. A breathalyzer test showed no signs of alcohol consumption, but a field drug test indicated the presence of marijuana.

The driver now faces multiple traffic violations and is also suspected of committing the crime of violence against a public official.
