The critically acclaimed Iranian drama Drobná nehoda (Minor Accident) arrives in Czech cinemas on February 26, offering a morally complex story of revenge and uncertainty. The film follows Vahid, a former political prisoner, who kidnaps a man he believes tortured him in the past, leading to a tense exploration of justice and doubt as he and fellow former prisoners question whether they’ve identified the right person.

Directed by Iranian filmmaker Džafar Panahí, known for his understated directorial style, Drobná nehoda draws from his personal experiences with imprisonment. According to reports, the film also represents a more politically open tone than his previous operate. The result is a tragicomic drama that blends the suspense of a thriller with the existential question of whether seeking retribution for systemic brutality at the individual level is worthwhile.

Panahí’s Drobná nehoda earned top honors at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and has received two Academy Award nominations, solidifying its place as a significant work in contemporary cinema. The film’s release comes at a time when international attention is focused on Iranian cinema and the challenges faced by filmmakers working under restrictive conditions, as Czech Television reports.

Film critic Pavel Sladký describes the movie as “a revenge road movie, packed with politics, revenge and reflections on forgiveness.” The film is expected to spark conversation about the themes of justice, retribution, and the human cost of political oppression. As Totalfilm.cz notes, the film “loudly accuses the Iranian regime.”
