Drones Invade Privacy in Trenčín Region Village

Residents of a town in the Trenčín Region of Slovakia are raising concerns about privacy intrusions from drones flying near their homes. The unmanned aerial vehicles have been spotted flying close to windows and even over swimming pools, according to reports.

Numerous residents of Trenčín and nearby communities have reported the unsettling presence of the drones in recent evenings, often near the local airport. The issue was initially brought to light by members of the “I Love Trenčín” online group.

The increased drone activity comes as the city prepares to host a large-scale drone show over Trenčín Castle on Saturday, as part of the opening ceremony for its year as a European Capital of Culture. If weather permits, 300 drones are scheduled to participate in the display.

This planned event highlights the growing use of drone technology, but also underscores the need to address concerns about privacy and safety as these devices become more prevalent. A similar display captivated students at the Secondary Vocational School Pod Sokolice in Trenčín back in October 2018, with over 400 schoolchildren observing the drones in action. More information about that event is available here.

Local authorities have not yet commented on the reports of drones flying near residences, and it remains unclear whether the recent sightings are related to preparations for the upcoming show. Residents are discussing the issue on Trenčínak.sk.

Details about the planned drone show over Trenčín Castle can be found here.
