WASHINGTON – Concerns are rising within the U.S. Administration regarding potential security threats as the conflict between the U.S., Israel and Iran escalates. Despite heightened security measures protecting high-ranking officials and government buildings in Washington D.C., unidentified drones have been observed in the vicinity in recent days.
Reports from the United States indicate that multiple unidentified drones were spotted in the night sky over the past ten days, even flying close to the residences of two cabinet members. The Washington Post details the unfolding situation.
Near the White House
A senior U.S. Administration official stated that the drones were observed flying over the homes of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marc Rubio. “The military is closely monitoring potential threats as the situation in the Middle East (the war with Iran) continues to escalate,” the official added. The drones were also reportedly flying over Fort McNair.
Fort McNair is home to the National Defense University and serves as temporary housing for some government officials, making it a location in close proximity to the White House. The origin of the drones remains undetermined. Security concerns prompted discussions within the White House regarding the potential relocation of Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth, but the move did not occur.
Military Bases on Alert
In response to the increasing security threats, the White House has issued warnings to U.S. Diplomatic missions and consular offices worldwide. Several military installations within the United States have also been placed on heightened alert. McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida have raised their security posture to Charlie, indicating a potential threat of attack. A Delta alert level signifies an imminent or ongoing attack. The development underscores growing regional tensions and the potential for escalation.
The Pentagon declined to comment on the unidentified drones, stating: “The Department cannot, for security reasons, comment on the current location of the Secretary and his movements. Such information leads to a gross disruption of protection for U.S. Government officials.”
