A man in his 50s has been penalized after multiple instances of driving without a valid license, including an incident involving a collision with a train. The incidents, which occurred in and around Mariestad, Sweden, have resulted in legal repercussions for the driver.
On February 16, 2018, a car driven by the man collided with a train on the Kinnekulle line north of Mariestad. According to police reports, the driver self-reported the accident, which occurred near Bergatorp. He was transported to a hospital with a minor head injury. The driver, who lacks a driver’s license, was subsequently investigated for gross reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs. The collision took place at a level crossing on Route 2974, temporarily disrupting both road and rail traffic as the vehicle was removed.
More recently, on June 11, 2025, the same individual was sentenced to jail time for a previous offense. He also faces charges related to further unauthorized driving incidents in Mariestad and Toreboda. The driver has admitted to the offenses.
On June 5, 2025, the man was convicted following a high-speed pursuit through central Mariestad. The chase involved dangerous maneuvers, putting several people at risk as he attempted to evade police.
