Fire Breaks Out at Dubai Hotel Amidst Regional Tensions

A fire erupted at the Fairmont The Palm hotel in Dubai on Saturday, February 29, 2026, as Iran launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East. The incident occurred during a period of heightened regional conflict following recent US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets. The unfolding situation underscores growing instability in the region and raises concerns about the safety of international travelers and infrastructure.

Footage verified by The Independent shows a projectile striking near the entrance of the luxury hotel, located in the Palm Jumeirah area. The Dubai Media Office reported that an “incident occurred in a building in the Palm Jumeirah area” and that four people sustained injuries. Attempts to reach the hotel for comment were unsuccessful.

According to reports from The New York Post, the hotel appeared to be significantly damaged, with flames engulfing parts of the facade. Debris believed to be from an intercepted missile crashed near the front of the building.

The UAE military stated it intercepted three waves of ballistic missiles launched from Iran. Debris from the intercepted attacks fell in several areas of Abu Dhabi, resulting in one fatality – a “worker of Asian nationality” in a residential area, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense. GB News reported that flames were visible at the entrance of the Fairmont The Palm.

Concerns were also raised about potential damage to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, though no confirmation of strikes has been reported. The UAE has stated it “reserves the right to respond” to the Iranian strikes, according to GB News.

The attacks by Iran follow US and Israeli strikes on targets within Iran, which Iranian state media reported resulted in dozens of deaths, including at least 53 people reportedly killed at a girls’ school and 15 in a sports hall in the Fars province. AD.nl reported that over 200 people have died as a result of attacks on Iran.

A family from the Netherlands was reportedly sheltering in a Dubai basement as rockets impacted nearby, according to L1 Nieuws. A Belgian woman described the situation in Dubai as “a state of war” to HLN.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned that Iran would continue to exercise its right to self-defense until aggression ceases, in a letter to the UN Security Council and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The development underscores the potential for further escalation in the region.
