Seventy-five people participated in a recent walk organized to raise awareness about colorectal cancer screening, demonstrating a strong community commitment to preventative health. The event, held on March 8, was hosted by the Coursac branch of the Dordogne League Against Cancer and aimed to highlight the importance of early detection.
Simple and Painless Screening Available
Local coordinator Marie-France Barre emphasized the accessibility of colorectal cancer screening, stating, “On behalf of the departmental president Catherine Galvagnon, I thank everyone for their support, as well as the volunteers, notably Fabienne and Yves Samour who marked the route.” She reminded attendees that a simple and painless screening is available to individuals aged 50-74 through a kit sent by the French primary health insurance fund (CPAM) every two years. Early detection is critical, as “nine out of ten cancers are curable when detected early,” Barre insisted.
The walk began at 9:00 AM at the local football stadium, where participants were greeted with refreshments and a welcoming atmosphere. The event concluded with a shared meal, reinforcing the spirit of solidarity surrounding this important health cause. This initiative underscores the ongoing public health need for increased awareness and participation in cancer screening programs.
