Initial symptoms of a yet-unspecified illness typically start within a few days of being bitten, according to an epidemiologist in Plovdiv.

“The symptoms start with a severe headache, fever, fatigue, and pain in the joints and muscles,” explained Dr. Hristiana Batselova, a specialist in infectious disease epidemiology. Dr. Batselova is as well the head of the Hygiene-Epidemiological Department at University Hospital “St. George” in Plovdiv, according to hospital records.

The information comes as health officials continue to monitor for potential outbreaks of various illnesses. Dr. Batselova has over 17 years of medical experience and provides consultations on infectious disease prevention, vaccinations, and immunization schedules, as detailed on Healee.

She also prepares guidelines for required and recommended vaccinations for travelers. Dr. Batselova graduated from the Medical University of Plovdiv in 2007 and completed her specialization in Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases in 2012, as noted in a biographical profile.
