A woman has been arrested in Egypt after a shocking video circulated on social media showing her attacking a tuk-tuk driver with a white weapon. The incident, which sparked outrage online, underscores the increasing visibility of violent incidents captured and shared through social media platforms.
Police in the city of Shubbin al-Kom, in the Menoufia Governorate, received a report on February 24 regarding the assault. According to the report, the tuk-tuk driver was attacked by the ex-wife of his brother, who works as a hairdresser abroad. The woman allegedly used a sharp object to inflict a cut on the driver’s arm.
Investigators determined the attack stemmed from a heated family dispute over custody of the woman’s child from her marriage to the victim’s brother. The situation was further complicated by ongoing legal proceedings related to the brother’s subsequent marriage to another woman. This led the woman to allegedly ambush the driver and retaliate in public.
Authorities apprehended the suspect, recovered the vehicle she was driving, and seized the weapon used in the assault. During questioning, she confessed to the attack, stating that the ongoing custody battle fueled her actions.
Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the public prosecutor’s office has taken over the investigation to determine the full extent of the incident. The case highlights the potential for escalating tensions in family disputes and the consequences of resorting to violence.
