An Egyptian actress and four others have been referred to criminal court on charges of robbery and assault, authorities announced Tuesday, March 11, 2026. The case highlights a growing concern over violent crime in the Cairo area.

Investigation into Allegations Against Jihan El-Shamasherji

Jihan El-Shamasherji, along with co-defendants Mai Mahmoud, Mahrous Hamada, Mostafa Mamdouh, and Mahmoud Ashraf, are accused of stealing belongings from a woman, Amima Mohamed, using force. The referral to trial comes after an investigation by the Public Prosecution.

According to the investigation, detailed in case number 6553 of 2025, filed with the Central Cairo Prosecution (number 1434 of 2025), the defendants approached the victim while traveling in a vehicle. They allegedly stole her possessions, and when she resisted, the driver intentionally struck her with the car, causing injuries as documented in a medical report.

Investigators determined the defendants fled the scene with the stolen items after the incident.

Prosecutors also allege the group possessed a hammer without legal justification or professional necessity, as outlined in the investigation.
