The Egyptian film industry is heading into the Eid al-Fitr holiday with a significantly smaller lineup than anticipated, as one film has been pulled from distribution. Now, just three movies are competing for audiences during the traditionally busy box office period, according to reports.

The film “Al-Safah Al-Tajammu” (The Gathering Killer), starring Ahmed El-Fishawy and Sabreen, was removed from cinemas before its release due to discrepancies between the final script and the submitted screenplay. El Watan News reports that this withdrawal has reshaped the competitive landscape for Eid al-Fitr 2026.

Despite the change, the holiday season will still feature a strong comedic focus. The Egypt Telegraph notes that the season is expected to be relatively short, with attendance likely to decline as the holiday ends and school resumes.

Currently, the films still in contention include “Barashama,” starring Hisham Maged, and “Family Business,” featuring Mohamed Saad. “Barashama” has already generated buzz, reportedly topping trending lists after a special screening. Mohamed Saad returns for another installment of “Family Business,” alongside Ghada Adel, Heidy Karam, Donia Sami, and Mahmoud Abdel Maghni. The film centers on a family attempting to survive through small-time theft, leading to comedic situations and internal conflicts.

The lineup also includes films “Eigi” and another unnamed project, bringing the total to four, according to Roayah News.

Meanwhile, female stars are maintaining a strong presence in Eid al-Fitr films, despite a lack of leading female roles, hiamag.com reports.

For audiences looking for options beyond the cinema, several films will be exclusively available on Shahid streaming platform, according to Music Nation.

a selection of foreign films will be shown in theaters, offering a mix of horror and fantasy options for moviegoers, as reported by tawusal.com. The announcement adds to a year of major film releases and highlights the continued appeal of both local and international cinema.
