Now a World Cup upset loomsGerman Ski Queen Emma Aicher Celebrates Dominant Victory
Emma Aicher continues her stellar form after the Winter Games. In Andorra, she celebrated a commanding victory in the Super-G, leaving the competition far behind. With two Olympic medals already this season, will Aicher also claim two Crystal Globes?
Ski racer Emma Aicher won the Super-G in Soldeu with a dominant performance. The top German alpine skier and two-time Olympic medalist topped the World Cup event in Andorra, finishing 0.88 seconds ahead of New Zealand’s Alice Robinson. Switzerland’s Corinne Suter took third, nearly a full second behind Aicher. Kira Weidle-Winkelmann, the second-best DSV starter in Soldeu, was seventh after 31 competitors.
A day after finishing fourth in the downhill, Aicher delivered an almost flawless run with an aggressive line – though she initially saw it differently. “I don’t experience it was fully committed,” the 22-year-ancient said on ARD. “I was thinking during the run: a little more consistent! But maybe it worked out well.”
Chances for Small Crystal Globes
And how: Aicher celebrated her fifth World Cup victory and third of the winter season. She previously won the downhill in St. Moritz in December and a Super-G in Tarvisio in January. At the Winter Games in Cortina, the German ski star secured silver in both the downhill and the team combined alongside Weidle-Winkelmann.
With the commanding win, Aicher remains in contention for the discipline overall title: she is now in third place, just 96 points behind leader Sofia Goggia – the Italian finished outside the top five in Soldeu. Another Super-G for the women takes place in Andorra this Sunday (10:15 AM/ARD and Eurosport).
Aicher also has strong chances to win the small crystal globe in the downhill as the season’s best in that discipline: she is currently in second place, 94 points behind Lindsey Vonn; still, the American is unable to compete this winter after a serious injury sustained at the Olympics.
