The veto of the defense funding bill by Poland’s president has triggered a political crisis and raised concerns about the country’s commitment to bolstering its military capabilities. The move comes as European nations are increasingly focused on strengthening their defense postures amid ongoing geopolitical instability.

According to reports, Prime Minister Tusk announced the government’s “Plan B” following an emergency meeting convened after the president’s address. Tusk characterized the public mood as one of disappointment and shock, and suggested the veto was being viewed with favor in Russia.

The Marshal of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, stated that there is no foundation to move forward with a proposed alternative bill, jointly put forward by the president and the National Bank of Poland. Criticism of the president’s decision was also voiced within the Sejm by MP Jerzy Meysztowicz.
