European Energy Costs Remain High, Dutch Providers Increase Rates

European consumers continue to face elevated energy costs, with Dutch households experiencing particularly high prices. According to data from Energievergelijk.nl, the gas price in the Netherlands currently ranges from €1.339 to €1.662 per cubic meter, including taxes and VAT, as of March 23, 2026. This situation is compounded by recent tariff increases from three energy suppliers announced on the same day.

The average gas price offered by Dutch energy suppliers is currently €1.492 per cubic meter. However, the wholesale price of gas, as measured by the TTF (Dutch TTF Gas Futures – ICE Endex), remains lower at €0.570 per cubic meter. This disparity highlights the additional costs associated with supply, distribution, and taxation.

Several energy providers have announced their pricing for various contract lengths. BudgetEnergie offers variable rates at €1.592 per cubic meter, with fixed one-year and three-year contracts at €1.574 and €1.501 respectively. Clean Energy’s variable rate is €1.570, while fixed contracts are priced at €1.594 (one year) and €1.461 (three years). Coolblue’s fixed one-year contract is €1.606, decreasing to €1.339 for a three-year agreement. Delta Energie provides a variable rate of €1.266, with fixed options at €1.534 (one year) and €1.520 (three years).

Other providers and their rates include: Eneco (variable €1.695, 1-year €1.646, 3-year €1.509), Energie VanOns (variable €1.292), Energiedirect (1-year €1.632, 2-year €1.409, 3-year €1.429), Engie (variable €1.249, 1-year €1.613, 3-year €1.381), Essent (variable €1.295, 1-year €1.648, 3-year €1.458), Greenchoice (variable €1.499, 1-year €1.491, 2-year €1.483), Innova Energie (1-year €1.530, 2-year €1.418, 3-year €1.347), Mega (variable €1.273, 1-year €1.662, 2-year €1.519, 3-year €1.416), OM (variable €1.308, 1-year €1.399), Oxxio (variable €1.691, 1-year €1.643, 3-year €1.506), Powerpeers (variable €1.264), UnitedConsumers (1-year €1.448, 3-year €1.385), Vandebron (variable €1.647, 1-year €1.614, 2-year €1.557, 3-year €1.518), and Vattenfall (variable €1.550, 1-year €1.624).

The rising costs are impacting consumers across Europe, with some countries offering measures to mitigate the financial burden. According to De Telegraaf, other nations are implementing policies to soften the impact on household budgets. The gas price increase in the Middle East has added approximately 18 cents per cubic meter to consumer costs over the past two weeks, and further increases are anticipated.

Despite recent fluctuations, the gas price remains significantly below its 2022 peak, as noted by Beursgorilla.nl. Consumers are advised to carefully evaluate their energy contracts and consider options for managing costs, including fixed-rate agreements, though plusonline.nl cautions that fixed rates are not always guaranteed to remain constant.
