What Eric Dane Said About His ALS Diagnosis
The actor spoke openly about his condition, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in several interviews in recent months. He first shared details of his diagnosis with People magazine in April 2025, confirming he would continue filming the third season of “Euphoria” at that time.
In June 2025, during an exclusive conversation with “Fine Morning America,” Dane revealed that only his left arm was functioning. “My left side is functioning, my right side has completely shut down,” he said. He added, “Maybe in a couple of months my left hand won’t either.”

In the interview with Diane Sawyer, the actor recounted that his symptoms began in 2024 with weakness in his right hand. “I didn’t really think much of it at the time. I thought maybe I’d been texting too much or my hand was tired,” he recalled, adding that “a few weeks later, I noticed it had gotten a little worse, so I went to see a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist.” He ultimately shared that he was sent to two neurologists before receiving his diagnosis.
In recent months, the actor had shown visible physical deterioration, but continued to share messages of strength and support for ALS research until his final public appearances.
