Ex-Convict Killed in Targeted Home Invasion in Southwest Rosario

A 34-year-traditional man with a criminal history was shot to death during a targeted attack at a residence in the southwest region of Rosario on Friday, April 11, 2026. The incident, which investigators are treating as a suspected “settling of accounts,” as well left a teenager wounded.

The violence erupted around 11:25 p.m. At a home located on Santa Matilde in the 4300 block of the Alvear neighborhood. According to police reports, a group of six men arriving on three motorcycles coordinated the assault. While some remained at the entrance, two attackers entered the house and advanced to a bedroom, where they fired shots at close range.

Emergency responders from the Sies ambulance service and the Radioelectric Command arrived shortly after the call. Upon entering the home, they discovered two men lying on a bed. Gastón Ángel Ereñu, 34, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene. A second victim, identified as 19-year-old Tomás Ezequiel L., sustained a gunshot wound to his upper left leg and was transported to the Hospital de Emergencias Clemente Álvarez, where he remains in stable condition.

Forensic ballistics experts recovered two 9mm shell casings and deformed projectile fragments from the scene, reinforcing the theory of a direct and planned execution. Before fleeing the residence, the attackers stole a motorcycle; however, the victim’s partner indicated that the stolen vehicle had been previously reported stolen.

The victim, Ereñu, had a prior criminal record and had served time for extorting business owners. In April 2021, he received a three-year sentence through an abbreviated procedure that included financial restitution to his victims. This history of illegal collections and intimidation is now a primary lead for investigators attempting to determine the motive behind the hit.

This attack marks the fourth homicide recorded in the Rosario department during the month of April. The precision and speed of the operation suggest a professional hit, leading authorities to investigate whether the killing was a “mafia message” or a retaliation for Ereñu’s previous criminal activities.

Local authorities are currently reviewing public and private security cameras to track the movements of the motorcycles and identify the suspects. The case underscores the ongoing challenges of gang-related violence and targeted killings within the city’s residential neighborhoods.
