Forbidden Dreams and Forced Ties: ‘Seher – Hone Ko Hai’ Premieres on Colors TV
The dramatic landscape of Indian television has a new centerpiece with the premiere of Seher – Hone Ko Hai. Debuting on December 2, 2025, on Colors TV and streaming via JioHotstar, the series explores the volatile intersection of personal ambition and rigid societal expectations.
At the heart of the narrative is sixteen-year-classic Seher Baig, portrayed by Rishita Kothari. Seher harbors a secret passion for medicine, studying in stealth under the guidance of her mother, Kausar, to escape her father’s crushing orthodoxy. However, these aspirations are pushed to the brink when the family is forced to move to Lucknow, placing Seher under her father’s direct and oppressive roof.
The tension escalates when Seher’s father arranges her engagement to Mahid Niyazi, played by Parth Samthaan. Mahid is the grandson of the city’s revered mufti—a figure of immense fear, and respect. While Mahid is known to be principled and fair, he is likewise characterized as a rigid, sharp-tongued man with a temper that keeps most people, particularly women, at a distance.
The union is far from a romantic pursuit. In a harrowing turn of events, Seher is forced into marriage after her father threatens Kausar, eventually confining her mother in a basement to ensure Seher’s compliance. Despite the emotional turmoil and her own resistance, the wedding takes place, leaving Seher distressed and unwilling to accept the relationship, even as Mahid remains content with the marriage.
Produced by Richa Yamini under Icecream Dreams and Aarambh Entertainment, Seher – Hone Ko Hai is a loose adaptation of the Turkish drama Kizil Goncalar. This adaptation brings a focused lens to social issues, highlighting the struggle between traditional constraints and the pursuit of education.
The series, which features a multi-camera setup and 20-minute episodes, continues to unfold its story of opposites attracting amidst a backdrop of familial conflict. For those following the series, you can find more updates at seher.no.
