Cesc Fabregas is proving to be a transformative figure at Como 1907, leading the club to challenge the established order in Serie A during the 2025-2026 season.
Fabregas’ tactical approach has propelled Como 1907 into contention among Italy’s elite, with the club currently holding a fourth-place position in the Serie A standings with 51 points through 28 matches.
The remarkable ascent comes just one season after Como 1907 secured promotion to Serie A, ending a 21-year absence from the top flight. Fabregas initially served as an assistant coach under Osian Roberts, lacking the necessary UEFA Pro coaching license at the time, before taking the helm as head coach last season and guiding the team to a 10th-place finish.

Como, owned by Indonesian businessmen Hartono brothers, has quickly grow a force to be reckoned with. Their impressive form includes convincing victories over Juventus and a draw against Napoli, signaling their readiness to compete with Serie A’s traditional powerhouses. This success is fueled by both tactical innovation and the emergence of young talents like Nico Paz.
From Serie B to Champions League Contenders
Como’s rapid rise has seen them enter the conversation for Champions League qualification for the 2026-2027 season.
“Fabregas is truly incredibly important to us, but we would be foolish if we didn’t think that one day he could go to Arsenal, Barcelona, or Chelsea,” said Como President Mirwan Suwarso, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb from Rivista Undici.
Fabregas’ success at Como has inevitably attracted attention from other clubs. He was already linked with coaching positions at top clubs like AC Milan, Inter Milan, and AS Roma last season.

Mirwan Suwarso Acknowledges Fabregas’ Bigger Ambitions
Suwarso recognizes he may not be able to retain Fabregas indefinitely, especially considering the coach also holds a stake in Como.
“If he continues to win with us or remains successful, although speak for him, I think he may have bigger dreams,” Suwarso stated.
Suwarso hopes Fabregas will be involved in identifying his successor at Como 1907.
“However, I hope that while he is still here, he helps us create a plan for success for the person who will eventually replace him.”
“For me, when he leaves, if he ever does exit, he should be the one to choose who will take his place.
“He should be involved in the selection process. As a member of the Board of Football, he should also aid us appoint the next coach,” Suwarso explained.
