A 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman have been charged after allegedly attempting to enter a high-security naval base in Scotland, authorities announced. The incident at Faslane, which houses the United Kingdom’s nuclear submarines, raises security concerns and highlights the ongoing vigilance required at key strategic locations.
Police were alerted to the attempted intrusion on Thursday evening and both individuals were subsequently taken into custody, according to reports. They are expected to appear in court on Monday as the investigation continues.
The Royal Navy confirmed that the pair’s attempt to access the heavily guarded facility was unsuccessful. Details surrounding the method of attempted entry have not been released.
Faslane is a central component of the UK’s Trident nuclear deterrent system and a crucial facility for the British submarine fleet.
