FBI Releases Fresh Images in Search for Missing Nancy Guthrie
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” indicate host Savannah Guthrie, continues to gain national attention as authorities released new surveillance footage of a potential suspect. The FBI is now questioning a person in connection with the case, though no charges have been filed.
The newly released images, shared on February 10, show a masked and armed individual appearing to tamper with the security camera at Guthrie’s front door the night she disappeared. FBI Director Kash Patel stated the footage was “recovered from residual data located in backend systems.”
Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. A fellow churchgoer reported her missing when she didn’t attend morning services. The NBC anchor and her siblings have since made emotional pleas for her safe return after unverified ransom notes were sent to several media organizations.
According to officials, investigators are consulting with AI experts to examine the validity and possible origins of the ransom notes. The case has drawn comparisons to other high-profile disappearances, highlighting the public’s fascination with true crime and missing person investigations.
“We are looking at people who, as we say, are persons of interest,” Patel told Fox News. He added that the FBI is working to eliminate anyone who may not be involved, and that they are investigating “persons of interest in and around the area related to this event.”
Savannah Guthrie’s co-hosts on the “Today” show revealed on Tuesday that billboards have been erected across Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Texas, urging anyone with information to approach forward. The family believes Nancy is still alive.
Investigators have noted that Nancy Guthrie requires daily medication, and it could be fatal if she does not receive it within 24 hours. Veteran homicide investigator Paul Ciolino expressed skepticism about a kidnapping, stating, “I don’t think she was kidnapped. We would’ve heard. Listen, there would’ve been a video, there would’ve been a photograph, there would’ve been something….”

A one-hour special, “The Search for Nancy Guthrie,” is scheduled to air on CNN & CNN All Access at 11 p.m. ET on February 10, hosted by Laura Coates.
