Feyenoord parted ways with Quinten Timber and Justin Bijlow during the winter transfer window. Both players moved to Olympique Marseille and Genoa, respectively, with their contracts nearing expiration, making a sale necessary to secure transfer fees.

General Director Dennis te Kloese reflected on the departures of the duo, emphasizing their importance to the club. “They are fantastic guys, with a lot of history in Justin’s case. A lot of value for the club in Quinten’s case, there is no doubt about that.”

According to the club executive, the personal desires of both players also played a role in the decision. “In their personal situation, there was a desire to take the next step for some time. Justin was on his way to England, but that didn’t happen. In Quinten’s case, injuries prevented a move during the summer. Now opportunities arose and we had to discuss things together.”

Te Kloese indicated that the timing of the sales was rarely ideal, but the club had to make a calculated decision. “Is it a great moment? I don’t think there’s ever a good moment, but at that point, it was the right time.”

The General Director expressed satisfaction with how both players are currently performing at their new clubs, while also underscoring the business side of the transfers. “It gives me great pleasure that Justin is doing well and is fit in Italy, I honestly didn’t expect anything else. I’m happy that Quinten has finally been able to take the step that he and his family have been working towards for a long time.”

Finally, Te Kloese pointed to the necessity of acting when contracts are running down. “We must also not lose sight of reality. If the contract expires, you receive nothing for it. Now we were able to receive a considerable fee.”
