Galaxus, a Swiss online retailer, reported selling more than double the number of fidget toys in 2025 compared to the previous year. This growth accelerated in the first three months of 2026, with sales increasing by nearly 140 percent year-over-year. The company attributes the boom to people seeking tools to cope with “decreasing attention spans, endless scrolling, and sensory overload.”
While 35- to 44-year-olds currently represent the largest segment of fidget toy buyers at 38 percent, the 18- to 25-year-old demographic is rapidly gaining traction. Their share of sales has tripled from 2025 to 2026, rising from four percent to twelve percent. This shift suggests a growing awareness of these tools among younger generations.
The current popularity of fidget toys echoes a similar trend from 2017, when fidget spinners became a widespread phenomenon, even leading to bans in some schools due to concerns about distraction. Fidget spinners were initially touted for their potential to improve concentration and provide a calming effect, but the hype quickly subsided.
The available options range from glittery octopuses and reusable bubble wrap to classic stress balls. Social media platforms have played a significant role in promoting fidget toys as aids for concentration problems and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). According to 20 Minuten, approximately two-thirds of children in Switzerland are affected by the trend.
