Major renovations are underway at the Flora metro station in Prague, leading to a ten-month closure starting February 2, 2026. The extensive project, a significant undertaking for the city’s public transportation system, will involve replacing escalators and modernizing the station’s infrastructure.

The revitalization of the station, which serves the A line, is being carried out by a consortium of STRABAG and OHLA ŽS, following a public tender awarded by the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP). The project was announced on July 16, 2025, and aims to improve accessibility and overall passenger experience.

During the closure, trains will continue to pass through the station without stopping. Passengers are advised to plan for alternative routes. The work includes dismantling existing cladding and nearly 45-year-vintage escalators, which will be replaced with newer models. Images display the station already undergoing significant demolition, with work visible from passing trains.

The complete renovation is expected to take 29 months, with the station slated to reopen between November and December 2026. However, the installation of elevators and the completion of barrier-free access will not be finished until the first quarter of 2028. The project, costing nearly 1.3 billion Czech crowns, will build Flora the 49th barrier-free station in the Prague metro system.

City officials have emphasized that the work will be conducted with safety as a priority and with minimal disruption to commuters and local residents. The modernization is intended to bring the station, which hasn’t seen a major overhaul in over four decades, into the 21st century.
