O’Higgins de Rancagua secured a key victory over Deportes Tolima, thanks to a goal from Francisco González. The Chilean side brought in González from Defensa y Justicia of Argentina midway through last year, and he’s quickly become a pivotal player for the club.

González has already made a significant impact in 2026, scoring against Bahia of Brazil and now against Tolima. He also contributed an assist in O’Higgins’ recent win against Universidad Católica, setting up Bastián Yáñez for the decisive goal with a perfectly placed cross.

The 24-year-old, who previously represented Argentina at the U-23 level, was named man of the match against Católica. “Thank God we are getting stronger here at home, this team deserves it, training and working with them every day is very positive,” González said after the match.

González is thriving in Rancagua, and credits the passionate fanbase for his success. “Thank you to the people, every game surprises me more: They reach and cheer us on whether we win, lose, or draw. That is greatly appreciated, they make a great effort to come and support us. We hope to continue on this path,” he stated.

González signed a contract with O’Higgins through December 2028 after arriving from Defensa y Justicia. He continues to impress with his performances. “We always strive to look to win every game,” the left-footed attacker said.

“It can happen or not, but people can rest assured. This group gives their all on the field, that was clear today. It’s a huge morale boost, we know the quality of the Católica team. And the people, who surprise me more every day,” González added, leaving the field to a standing ovation.

González was substituted out in the 62nd minute by Benjamín Schamine, and is now focused on the rematch against Deportes Tolima in Colombia on Wednesday, March 11, at 9:30 PM local time, with O’Higgins holding a 1-0 aggregate lead.
