Franziska Koch Stuns Marianne Vos to Claim Historic Paris-Roubaix Femmes Victory
In a thrilling finale to the “Hell of the North,” German champion Franziska Koch secured the biggest win of her career on April 12, 2026, outsprinting legend Marianne Vos to claim the Paris-Roubaix Femmes title. The FDJ United-Suez rider narrowly defeated Vos in a high-stakes showdown in the Roubaix velodrome, winning by just half-a-wheel length.
The victory marks a career-defining moment for the 25-year-old Koch, who had been in inspired form throughout the spring. Prior to this triumph, Koch secured a third-place finish at Strade-Bianche, fifth at Omloop Nieuwsblad, and top-10 results at both Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Tour of Flanders. Aside from two national titles and a 2019 Boels Ladies Tour stage win, this victory stands as her most significant achievement to date.
The 142.9-km race, featuring 20 grueling sectors of pavé, reached its boiling point at the five-star Mons-en-Pévèle sector. Defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot launched a decisive attack, which only Koch, Vos, and Kata Blanka Vas were able to match. As the quartet pushed forward, the group eventually splintered; Vas lost contact, leaving a powerful trio of Koch and the Visma-Lease a Bike duo of Vos and Ferrand-Prévot to battle for the win.
The tactical battle intensified over the final kilometers. Koch repeatedly attempted to shake the Visma pair, including an attack with 4.5km remaining that dropped Ferrand-Prévot, though Vos remained glued to her wheel. Ferrand-Prévot managed to bridge the gap once more in the penultimate kilometer, leading the trio into the iconic Roubaix velodrome.
Inside the velodrome, the drama peaked. Koch utilized the high boards to uncover an opening before diving down behind Ferrand-Prévot, who led out the final sprint. On the back straight, Koch and Vos launched their final efforts side-by-side. While Vos momentarily pulled ahead in the outside lane on the finishing straight, Koch fought back with a powerful surge to pip the Dutch legend to the line.
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, the 2025 victor, rounded out the podium in third place. Despite their numerical advantage, Visma-Lease a Bike was unable to prevent Koch’s late surge. Previous winner Lotte Kopecky finished in fourth, crossing the line 90 seconds behind the winner.
The race was a test of endurance and strategy, navigating challenging five-star sectors including the 3-km Mons-en-Pévèle and the 2.1-km Carrefour de l’Arbre. For Koch, the win cements her status as a rising star in the women’s peloton and provides a perfect capstone to a dominant spring campaign.
