A mobile screening unit recently provided free respiratory disease and lung cancer screenings to over 60 patients in Décines-Charpieu, France. The initiative, known as the Pneumobile, operated from Tuesday to Thursday on Place Roger Salengro, offering a vital service for early detection and preventative care.

Approximately 20 Appointments Scheduled Daily

The Pneumobile, a mobile screening unit operated by the Hospices Civils de Lyon, facilitated comprehensive health assessments for around sixty former smokers. In addition to lung cancer and respiratory disease screenings, the unit as well offered screenings for colorectal, breast, and cervical cancers. This expansion of services underscores the importance of comprehensive preventative health measures.

The Pneumobile was joined by representatives from the regional cancer screening coordination center (CRCDC) and the Grand Large Territorial Health Community (CPTS) to provide additional resources and support. The availability of these screenings is particularly important as early detection is often key to successful treatment outcomes for both respiratory illnesses and cancer.

The Pneumobile is equipped with a scanner to assess lung health and conduct other necessary checks. According to Radio Scoop, the unit also provides consultations on tobacco cessation and support for those looking to quit smoking. This holistic approach addresses both the detection and prevention of related health issues.

This initiative builds on the success of previous deployments of the Pneumobile, which is described as a unique mobile screening unit in France. Hospices Civils de Lyon highlights the Pneumobile’s mission to reach populations with limited access to traditional healthcare services.

On February 15, 2026, Le Progrès reported that the Pneumobile had served more than 60 patients during its three-day visit to Décines-Charpieu.
