Honolulu Police Raid Game Rooms, Seize Thousands and Make Arrests
Honolulu police raided three game rooms this week, seizing dozens of gambling machines and over $13,000 in cash, and arresting multiple individuals on gambling and warrant-related charges.
The first raid occurred Tuesday at approximately 5 p.m. on Wanini Street in Waialua, where officers confiscated 14 gambling machines and more than $4,000. A 27-year-old woman was arrested for promoting gambling in the second degree and possession of a gambling device, while two additional men were taken into custody on separate criminal contempt of court warrants. Illegal gambling operations can contribute to other criminal activities, authorities say.
On Wednesday, around 6 p.m., police executed search warrants at two gambling rooms located on Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City. These searches yielded 34 gambling machines and over $9,000 in cash. One patron was arrested for criminal contempt of court and on two outstanding arrest warrants. Those seeking to understand the legal ramifications of gambling in Hawaii can find more information at the Hawaii Attorney General’s Office.
Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding illegal gambling to report it by calling the Narcotics/Vice 24-hour hotline at (808) 723-3933 or submitting an online report. The Honolulu Police Department continues to investigate these incidents and work to dismantle illegal gambling operations throughout the city.
