Grasshoppers Shake Up Leadership: Chief Business Officer Christoph Urech Departs

Grasshoppers have confirmed that Chief Business Officer Christoph Urech is leaving the club effective immediately on April 9, 2026. The abrupt departure comes after a tenure of less than a year, with some reports indicating Urech was in the role for only eight months.

The timing of the exit is particularly critical as the club remains embroiled in a high-stakes relegation battle. According to a club statement, Urech decided to step down to create “additional stability in the club environment” during this “sportingly decisive phase of the season.”

The move follows a period of significant friction between Urech and organized supporters. The CBO had become a point of contention for the fanbase, largely due to controversy surrounding the awarding of contracts to specific firms.

As part of the operational leadership changes, Leo Lian will take over Urech’s responsibilities on an interim basis. Lian is already familiar with the club’s inner workings, having previously supported Grasshoppers in various operational capacities.
