Google is rolling out recent Gemini features designed to streamline workflows within Google Workspace. The company’s AI assistant is evolving into a more proactive collaborator, aiming to alleviate users from repetitive tasks.

Gemini is poised to become a key tool for managing daily tasks within Workspace. Google recently announced several updates to how its AI assistant will function within its online office suite.

Gemini will function as an active collaborator, focused on gathering necessary information without requiring manual searches across Google Drive, Gmail, or the wider web.

Gemini Will Handle Preparatory Operate

The new capabilities of Gemini aim to eliminate the preparatory work that often precedes a task. Specifically, Google’s AI will be able to access various applications, including Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Chat, as well as the web, to proactively compile information for users.

Within Google Docs, the AI assistant can now generate initial drafts of text, fully formatted based on emails, chats, and files saved in your Google Drive. Users can too “co-edit” documents with Gemini, which will refine passages to strengthen messaging. The AI can also create new documents based on the format and structure of a provided reference document, and even analyze the tone of a document to suggest style-consistent modifications.

In Google Sheets, Gemini can now create complete spreadsheets from simple prompts, independently sourcing relevant data from across the Google ecosystem. Users can also describe desired outcomes in natural language, allowing Gemini to populate data and formulas within the spreadsheet.

For presentations, Gemini can now generate new slides tailored to the topic at hand, leveraging content from frequently used Google tools. A key benefit is the potential to eliminate tedious adjustments; users can instruct Gemini to modify existing slides to adhere to specific colors and styles.

Finally, AI Overviews, intelligent summaries powered by AI, are coming to Google Drive. When searching for content, Google Drive will automatically display a concise summary at the top of the search results. This functionality mirrors a similar feature already available in Gmail.

These new features, currently being deployed, will be available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as Gemini Alpha business customers. Google notes that these updates will initially be available only in American English.
