A fresh park is planned for the Vernets district of Geneva, replacing the current parking area at the city’s ice rink, following a decision by the Geneva City Council on Monday evening, March 16, 2026. The development is part of a broader effort to reshape the city and create more green spaces for residents.
The Patinoire des Vernets, located within the Vernets sports center, features two ice rinks open to the public and local clubs. The ice rink will remain open through March 29, 2026, according to the city.

The Patinoire des Vernets, which opened in 1958, is also home to the Genève-Servette HC ice hockey team and has a seating capacity of 7,135, according to Wikipedia. The arena hosted the 1962 FIBA Champions Cup final.

Every winter, the city hosts a “disco on ice” event at the Patinoire des Vernets, offering skating lessons and demonstrations of figure skating and ice hockey, as noted by Switzerland Tourism. The event has become a popular tradition in Geneva.
