Flight operations at Berlin Airport were temporarily suspended on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, after an unidentified flying object was observed near a German military helicopter hangar. The incident is the latest in a series of similar disruptions at airports across Europe, raising concerns about airspace security.
According to an airport spokesperson, takeoffs and landings were halted for approximately half an hour “for security reasons” following the sighting. Police were called to investigate, but the object was no longer visible when they arrived.
Normal air traffic resumed shortly after 7:10 PM local time, the spokesperson said.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has previously accused Russia of being behind a number of recent drone sightings near strategically important locations in Germany and other European countries, including airports, military bases, and power plants.
In October, drone activity forced the closure of Munich Airport twice, disrupting travel for thousands of passengers and leading to numerous flight cancellations or diversions. Flights were affected as a result.
