Typically outspoken, the owner of Panathinaikos unexpectedly expressed support for the team’s head coach, Ergin Ataman, urging patience from the club’s fans.
“Every road has potholes, and everyone can sometimes fall into one of them, but trust the driver,” Dimitris Giannakopoulos said to Panathinaikos supporters.
“I want to thank all the Panathinaikos fans for their endless support. You are the best in the world,” he added.
The statement comes ahead of a crucial EuroLeague matchup for the Athens club against Kaunas Žalgiris on Thursday, pitting two neighboring teams in the EuroLeague standings against each other. This game is particularly important as team performance can significantly impact morale and future strategies.
On Sunday, Panathinaikos unexpectedly lost in the Greek league against Iraklis of Thessaloniki, marking the Athens superclub’s third consecutive defeat across all competitions.
