A baseball player was ejected from a recent game after unintentionally hitting another player in the head with a pitch, sparking concern and briefly halting play. The incident occurred during a second-team match.
The player who threw the pitch, identified as Horita Kenjin, was immediately ejected after the ball struck Ishizuka in the head. The pitch, a 120-kilometer-per-hour curveball, reportedly “slipped” during the delivery, leading to the dangerous impact.
Play was temporarily suspended as medical personnel attended to Ishizuka. Even as details regarding Ishizuka’s condition were not immediately available, the incident caused a noticeable disturbance within the stadium.
Despite the unfortunate event, Horita had previously been performing well, maintaining a scoreless streak across three games prior to the incident. The ejection brings an abrupt end to that run.
Such incidents highlight the inherent risks associated with competitive sports and the importance of player safety protocols. Head injuries in sports are a significant concern, and teams and leagues continually perform to minimize the potential for serious harm.
