JAKARTA – Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the Harmoni Imlek Nusantara 2026 celebration in Jakarta on Saturday, February 28, 2026, as the nation marked the Lunar Latest Year with a public display of cultural unity. The event, held at Lapangan Banteng, featured a variety of performances and drew a large crowd.

According to reports, Gibran arrived at the location around 8:00 PM local time, wearing a brown batik shirt. He was greeted by a number of ministers and officials, including Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), and Didit Prabowo, son of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Several deputy ministers were as well in attendance, including Irene Umar Li, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, and Stella Christie, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology. Gibran received a brief overview of the event from Deputy Minister Christie upon his arrival.

Following the greeting, Gibran and his entourage entered the VIP area to observe the Harmoni Imlek Nusantara 2026 festivities. Inside, he exchanged greetings with prominent figures such as Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Chairman of the National Economic Council, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Pratikno, and Sultan Najamuddin, Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD). China’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Wang Lutong, was also present.

The celebration began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya. Attendees were then treated to a series of cultural performances, including captivating lion dances, wushu demonstrations, pencak silat displays, and traditional dances from across the Indonesian archipelago.

Earlier in the day, a parade took place around Lapangan Banteng, kicking off the festivities. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar officially opened the parade at approximately 4:26 PM local time, accompanied by Deputy Ministers Irene Umar Li and Stella Christie, as well as several regional leaders, including Governor of North Maluku Sherly Tjoanda and Mayor of Semarang Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti.

The parade’s opening was marked by the ceremonial striking of a traditional drum, performed from a stage positioned between the Jakarta Cathedral and the Istiqlal Mosque – a symbolic gesture of interfaith harmony. The parade itself featured a vibrant display of cultural traditions, including lion dances from various regions, ondel-ondel puppets, Reog Ponorogo performances, pencak silat, and other Indonesian art forms.

The event underscores the Indonesian government’s commitment to fostering cultural diversity and religious tolerance.
